Combat System
The deeper you dig into the mines, the more likely you are to encounter hostile creatures. Understanding the combat system is essential to protect your dwarves and your colony. This guide explains the combat mechanics, the types of creatures you will encounter, and strategies to defeat them effectively.
Basic Combat Mechanics
Combat in Dwarf Mine Colony is based on a turn system and uses the action points (AP) of dwarves:
-
Movement: Move your dwarf next to the creature you want to attack (costs 1 AP per tile).
-
Attack: Click on the creature to attack it automatically (costs 1 AP per attack).
-
Damage: Each attack deals 1 point of damage to the creature (can be improved with experience).
-
Counter-attack: If the creature survives, it will counter-attack and deal damage to your dwarf.
Hit Points (HP)
Each dwarf starts with 1 hit point (HP). HPs can be increased up to a maximum of 10 with experience. When a dwarf is injured, it automatically recovers hit points at a rate of 1 HP every 5 minutes (can be improved with a Hospital).
A dwarf whose HP falls to zero is considered seriously injured and can no longer fight or dig until it recovers at least 1 HP.
Hostile Creatures
There are three main types of creatures in the depths of the mine, each with its own characteristics:
Fast but fragile, the spider is the first creature you will encounter in the depths.

Combat Strategies
Group Combat
Attacking creatures with multiple dwarves is the most effective strategy:
- Position multiple dwarves around the creature to attack it simultaneously
- Alternate attacks to distribute damage among your dwarves
- Remove an injured dwarf from combat and replace it with a healthy dwarf
Using Buildings
Some buildings can help you manage combat more effectively:
- Hospital: Speeds up hit point recovery (1 HP every 2 minutes instead of 5)
- Brewery: Increases AP regeneration speed by 50%, allowing for faster attack chaining
- Wall: Blocks creature passages, useful for protecting valuable areas or isolating threats
Colony Defense
To effectively protect your colony:
- Build walls at critical access points to prevent creatures from reaching your citadel
- Always keep at least one dwarf near your citadel to defend against potential creatures
- Create "safety zones" with walls to retreat in case of danger
- Avoid digging too deep before having well-equipped and experienced dwarves
Important reminder: If all your dwarves die, it's Game Over! Your save file will be deleted and you will have to start a new game.
