First Steps in Dwarf Mine Colony
Welcome to the first steps guide of Dwarf Mine Colony! This guide will help you start your adventure as a manager of a mining dwarf colony.
Game objective: Develop a prosperous mining colony by digging to find resources, building facilities and protecting your dwarves from underground dangers.
Starting a New Game
When you start a new game, you begin with 1 dwarf and a citadel located near the surface (at position y=2). This is your base of operations from which you will develop your colony.
Understanding the Interface
The game screen is divided into several areas:
- Game Grid: The main area where your dwarves move and mine.
- Resource Panel: Located at the top, it displays all your current resources.
- Dwarf Information: On the right, you can see the status of your dwarves, their action points (AP) and their current missions.
- Construction Menu: Located at the bottom, it allows you to build different structures.
Action Points (AP)
Each dwarf has action points (AP) that are used to perform various tasks:
- Movement: 1 AP per tile
- Mining: Variable AP depending on the material
- Attack: 1 AP per attack
APs recharge automatically over time. A dwarf can have a maximum of 5 AP.
Tip: The Brewery can speed up AP recharge by 50%.
Mining and Resource Collection
Mining is the main activity in Dwarf Mine Colony. To mine:
- Select a dwarf by clicking on it
- Click on an adjacent tile containing a minable material
- The dwarf will use its AP to mine this tile
- Once the mining is complete, the resources will be automatically added to your inventory
Material Types
The different types of materials require a different number of AP to be extracted:
- Dirt: 1 AP (no resources)
- Stone: 2 AP (no resources)
- Coal: 2 AP
- Iron: 3 AP
- Gold: 4 AP
- Diamond: 5 AP
Depth and rarity: The deeper you dig, the more chances you have of finding precious resources. Gold starts appearing from 30 blocks depth, while diamonds appear from 50 blocks.
Building Structures
As you collect resources, you can build various facilities to improve the efficiency of your colony:
- Workshop: Reduces the AP cost for digging by 1 point
- Foundry: Doubles the amount of ore collected
- Brewery: Speeds up dwarves' AP recharge by 50%
- Barracks: Allows recruiting additional dwarves (1 per barracks)
- Wall: Blocks the passage of creatures and dwarves
- Hospital: Speeds up hit point regeneration
Note: Each building has a specific shape and requires an appropriate location to be built. You must first dig out the necessary space before you can build a structure there.
To build a structure:
- Click on the construction menu at the bottom of the screen
- Select the building you want to construct
- Choose a valid location (usually an excavated area)
- Confirm the construction
Next Steps
Now that you know the basics, here are some short-term goals:
- Build a workshop to reduce the AP cost of mining
- Build a foundry to double your resource production
- Build barracks to recruit additional dwarves
- Explore the depths to find gold and diamonds
- Prepare to encounter creatures in the depths!
Danger: As you dig deeper, you risk encountering hostile creatures such as spiders (from 20 blocks deep), slimes (from 50 blocks) and golems (from 75 blocks). Be prepared to fight them!
